The Quiet Revolution: How Surface Protection Film is Reshaping the World's Largest Yacht Galleys. - 28/02/2026
As we enter Spring 2026 in the world of yacht wrapping, it is fair to say that the last couple of years have seen one area of our business grow significantly — albeit much quieter than the hull and superstructure projects featuring drone videos and the dramatic results some know us for.
Many of our recent projects are being delivered quietly at the highest levels of the yachting industry, and these types of works are not photographed and are largely kept out of our social media for legal reasons.
It is fair to say, though, that the quality and benefits of our work is reshaping yacht galleys at the highest level. The strides we are making on large, 100m-plus class vessels — particularly on galleys — are significant. Many of the largest yachts in the world have now benefited from our service, and the impact of what we do in these spaces is becoming increasingly recognised across the industry.
A Different Kind of Transformation
When most people think of LuxWrap, they think of sweeping hull changes and drone footage with dramatic instrumental music.
But there is another side to what we do — one that rarely makes it onto Instagram, but which arguably has the most lasting and meaningful impact on the day-to-day operation of some of the finest vessels afloat. It happens inside, in the heart of the yacht: the galley.
Why the Galley Matters
A superyacht galley is, by any standard, a commercial kitchen operating in a residential context. On 100m-plus vessels, the galley runs at a relentless pace — breakfasts, lunches, dinners, late-night requests — serviced by professional chefs and crew working to the same standards you would expect in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The difference is that the kitchen moves.
These spaces are built to last. Predominantly polished stainless steel, the galley surfaces on a large yacht represent an enormous investment in both materials and craftsmanship. But from the moment a vessel is handed over, that investment begins to face its greatest enemy: daily use.
Scouring, degreasing, the abrasion of heavy pots and constant cleaning regimes — over time, even the finest stainless steel shows fatigue. A surface that looked immaculate at delivery begins to dull. Micro-scratches accumulate. What was once a polished, professional environment starts to look worn.
This is the problem we solve.
Surface Protection Film: The Invisible Guardian
Modern marine surface-protection film — known variously as PPF (Paint Protection Film), SPF (Surface Protection Film), or MPF (Marine Protection Film) — represents the next generation of yacht preservation. Although highly attractive to look at, they are not designed to be decorative materials. They are high-performance, transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) laminates engineered with hydrophobic, self-healing topcoats that provide invisible, reversible protection to some of the most valuable surfaces in the yachting world.
The principle is elegant in its simplicity: apply a sacrificial layer to the surface, and protect what is underneath. The film takes the punishment so the stainless steel does not have to.
Our brand of choice for both quality and value is NinjaShield® which is available in gloss, satin, and matt finishes. These films are engineered to match the design intent of the yacht — maintaining its aesthetic integrity while
rastically reducing the maintenance burden on crew. And crucially, when the film reaches the end of its useful life, it is simply removed and replaced, leaving the underlying substrate completely untouched.
The Benefits in Practice
The impact on a working galley is immediate and measurable.
Hygiene. The hydrophobic topcoat repels moisture, oils, and grease, making surfaces easier to clean and reducing the conditions in which bacteria can accumulate. On a vessel where food safety is paramount, this is no small advantage.
Maintenance reduction. With a protected surface, the aggressive cleaning regimes that typically accelerate wear can be softened. Crew spend less time trying to restore a finish and more time maintaining it. The result is a cleaner galley, achieved with less effort.
Finish longevity. The underlying stainless steel — which may cost tens of thousands of pounds to replace or refinish — remains in its original condition throughout the film's life. At a charter handover, a refit, or a sale, that condition is exactly what owners, managers, and surveyors want to see.
Professional appearance. On a vessel where every detail is a reflection of ownership standards, a galley that looks as good after five seasons as it did at delivery is not a luxury — it is an expectation.
Our Approach: Precision at Every Level
At LuxWrap, our galley installations are carried out to a specification that reflects the calibre of the vessels we work on. We define the scope carefully, because not all installations are equal — and clarity matters when you are working at this level.
For most yachts, we recommend a faces and edges specification as the baseline: protecting visible vertical surfaces and all door and drawer edges, with handles removed and reinstated to allow for a clean, uninterrupted finish. On larger projects, we use digital plotter cutters to pre-template each panel, delivering a precision, factory-grade result that leaves no room for inconsistency.
Extractor units receive particular attention. Externally wrapped as standard to maintain cleanliness and a uniform finish, we increasingly see new-build vessels specifying full internal wrapping of extractor hoods — digitally pre-cut panels that simplify grease management, maintain a pristine appearance even in concealed areas, and bring an unmatched level of craft to spaces that guests may never see but crew rely on every day.
Working at the Highest Level
The confidential nature of our work on the some of the world's largest yachts means we cannot share the specifics. What we can say is that the vessels in question represent the very pinnacle of the industry — and that almost every one of these projects has come to us through recommendation.
In an industry built on trust and discretion, word of mouth is the most powerful endorsement there is. A captain who has seen our work recommends us to another captain. A manager who has overseen one project specifies us for the next vessel in the fleet. An owner whose galley still looks immaculate after many seasons tells their peers. That chain of recommendation — quiet, personal, and based entirely on the quality of what we deliver — is the testimony we are most proud of, and the foundation on which this part of our business has been built.
The trust placed in us to work aboard these vessels — discreetly, professionally, and to a standard commensurate with the yachts themselves — is something we take very seriously. It is reflected in every panel we cut, every edge we wrap, and every installation we complete.
The Bigger Picture
Surface protection is rapidly becoming a standard specification on new builds and refit projects across the superyacht sector. What was once considered a novel addition is now increasingly seen as essential — particularly on vessels where operational intensity is high and the cost of surface degradation is significant.
At LuxWrap, we have been at the forefront of this shift. Our vast experience has given us a depth of knowledge and a consistency of result that the industry is increasingly turning to.
The work may be quieter than a full hull transformation. The results do not make it into the drone footage... But for the owners, crew, and managers who live and work on these vessels, the impact is felt every single day.
